DOLE PROVIDES LIVELIHOOD FOR PARENTS OF CHILD LABORERS IN APAYAO
Luna, Apayao - Thirty (30) Parents of Child Laborers received P591,027.00 worth of livelihood assistance while 47 parents received PhP 322,290.00 as salaries under the TUPAD program of the DOLE.
 
The livelihood assistance was released to the parents of child laborers in the form of materials and equipment to be used for the implementation of their proposed livelihood projects. 
 
These parents are engaged in different kinds of livelihood project such as food snack vending, ambulant vending, retailing, dressmaking, eatery, butchering, handicraft making and piggery. 
 
In a related development, Forty Seven (47) Parents of Profiled Child Laborers from Barangays Shalom and Marag under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa mga Disadvantage Workers (TUPAD) were employed as laborers cleaning Farm to Market Roads, Pathways and de-clogging of canals as part of the disinfection and sanitation activity of the barangay as a contribution to prevet the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
 
The children of the seventy seven (77) parents of child laborers were profiled as child laborers by DOLE Apayao Field Office during the last quarter of 2019.  The livelihood assistance provided to them is aimed at providingthem a decent job and also the proceeds will augment their daily needs inorder to prevent their children from absenteeism and eventual dropping out of school. 
 
Other parents of profiled Child Laborers were referred to different agencies for possible livelihood assistance. 
 
The DOLE-Apayao OIC Jane Adalan emphasized to the parents of the child laborers the importance of utilizing the fund provided to them wisely and by managing their projects properly in order to improve their quality of life and minimize or prevent existence of Child Laborers in the locality. 
 
The financial assistance was given to the beneficiaries in partnership with the Local Government Units and the Barangay Councils of Shalom and Marag who acted as the Co-Partner implementors.
