DOLE IMPOSES P30K PENALTY FOR UNFINISHED MANHOLE

BAGUIO CITY  - A construction company here was meted a penalty of thirty thousand pesos (Php30,000.00) for its failure to comply with the DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) and Department Order Number 198, series of 2018 (D.O. 198-18).

The penalty imposed was due to the failure of the contractor to install safety signages at the un-finished manhole along the off-carriageway project.

Department of Labor and Employment-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra said the safety and health of our workers and the general public cannot be compromised by ignoring the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS).

The workers are the most valuable assets of a company that must be protected, hence, we enjoined all employers, contractors and sub-contractors to be always vigilant to comply with the OSHS standards” Lacambra added.

The purpose of installing safety signages in construction projects is to warn the workers, the pedestrian/passersby of the hazard or danger.  Failure to install these signages poses great danger to the life and limbs of theses pedestrians/passersby.

D.O. 198-18, the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 11058 otherwise known as “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Therefore” penalizes an employer, contractor or subcontractor for its willful failure or refusal to comply with the OSHS standards.
