Baguio City-The Department of Labor and Employment – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the City Government of Baguio will be facilitating gainful employment opportunities to the unemployed, new graduates and new entrants to the labor force will be conducting the 2017 Labor Day Job and Business Fairs.

DOLE-CAR Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman  disclosed that more than 4,816 overseas and local job openings are up for grabs this coming May 1, 2017 Labor Day Job Fair at the Baguio Convention Center.

Director Guzman said that the Job and Business Fairs will commence at 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon and a total of total of 1,916 local job vacancies are available for applicants and 2,900 overseas job vacancies. Topping the job vacancies for local employment are Customer Service, Intelligence Officer for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Technical Support,  cashiers, collection specialists, retail and sales agent, sales associates, english teachers, general bookkeeper, marketing officer, store supervisor, skilled worker (construction), collector and waiters.

“For overseas employment, the top ten job orders are technician in medical Field, skilled laborer, office clerk, sales representatives, nurses, waitress/waiter, cook/cook assistant, midwife, factory worker and mason” Guzman added.

Director Guzman also said the 2017 Labor Day celebration on May 1st will be highlighted by job and business fairs, the Department of Labor and Employment-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) and the City Government of Baguio thru Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) and adopted the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan” in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on employment generation and facilitation.

This year’s theme, “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”, underscores the DOLE’s role in the achievement of decent work and economic growth as enshrined in the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan.  The said concept is a blueprint in achieving full employment at 5% unemployment rate by creating 7.5 million jobs mainly in key employment generating sectors (KEGS) specifically in the manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade.

In addition, there will be Government Service Clinic or a one stop shop government service center made available by partner agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Employees Compensation Commission, National Reintegration Center for OFWs, Occupational Safety and Health Center, Regional Tripartite and Wage Productivity Board, Professional Regulatory Commission, Social Security System, National Bureau of Investigation, OhilHealth, PagIbig, Department of Foreign Affairs and Baguio City Police Office to answer queries from the public on their programs and services while the private partners include Porta Vaga, Abanao Square, City Center Hotel, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company for free overseas calls for OFWs and  ABS-CBN for media promotions.

There are forty five (45) confirmed companies joining the Labor Day Job Fair; there are 32 local companies; 12 overseas recruitment agencies and one government agency (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency). There are 4,816 job vacancies of which 1,916 are local job vacancies and 2,900 are overseas job vacancies.
