BAGUIO CITY --- Sixty seven  (67) jobseekers got jobs immediately after joining  the 2017 Kalayaan Day Job and Business Fairs as one of the highlights in celebration of the 119th Independence Day  in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

DOLE-CAR Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman said about 20.30 percent of the four hundred ninety eight (498) registered jobseekers were Hired-On-the-Spot or a total of sixty seven (67) applicants will soon join the world of work.

“There are two hundred twenty four (224) near hires in the conduct of the 2017 Kalayaan Job Fair. Near hire applicants are those who need to process some prerequisite needed by the company and also to submit additional documents then the final interview to be officially hired.” Guzman added.

The job fair was held at the SM City Baguio Events Center and at the Porta Vaga Mall Parking area where a total two thousand three hundred sixteen (2,316) job vacancies are to be filled. The 2017 Kalayaan job fair at the Porta Vaga Mall included the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK)”, an initiative of the DOLE and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Cordillera Administrative Region.

A total of twenty three (28) local companies and two (2) government agencies converged at the two venues to offer job vacancies economical for jobseekers.

 “We in the Department of Labor and Employment express our gratitude to all who participated and provided support in the conduct of our job fair.  We were able to facilitate the employment of jobseekers and also provided various services to our entrepreneurs to include business/entrepreneurial coaching and information booth, so that in addition to employment opportunities, people can also learn or look into livelihood and entrepreneurial options.  ” Director Guzman added.

The Director also said that more are expected to get employed even months after the 2017 Kalayaan Job fair as some three hundred thirty three (333) job applicants have qualified for further interview.

“We will follow up the reports of our participating employers to know how many of those who have been scheduled for further interview who were eventually hired,” Guzman added.

Aside from employment facilitation, the job and business fairs at the SM City Baguio and Porta Vaga Mall  also featured an advocacy campaign for the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) were Brochures and other information materials on the Philippine Program Against Child Labor and the WDACL were distributed and WDACL tarpaulin were displayed in various areas of the job fair venues, along main roads in the city, barangay halls and play areas for children to raise awareness on the plight of child laborers and to let the public know that WDACL is equally an important event. The global theme for 2017 World day Against Child Labor: “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labor”.
