FATHER OF FALLEN OFFICER GETS DOLE LIVELIHOOD AID

BANGUED, Abra - Fifty-three year old Felipe Cariño visited the Department of Labor and Employent-Abra (DOLE-Abra) in March for possible formal employment referral. He is the father of Private First Class Jeffrey Cariño who was a killed-in-action during an encounter between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Abu Sayaff  in Sulu on July 7, 2016.

Because of age and upon evaluation of his skills and work experiences, he was referred for livelihood assistance under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) which he accepted.

This June 2017, he received from the DOLE-Abra P20, 000 worth of supplies and materials for the enhancement of his sari-sari store.

Because of the grant, he was able to reopen and expand the destroyed store his family had been keeping in Calaba, Bangued. The store was devastated by Typhoon Lawin in October 2016.

The enhancement of his store is expected to earn him more or less P15,000 a month, which he considers a big assistance for his family.

“Adu iti rason tapno sumalung-at iti panagbiag tayo. Maysa kadagitoy iti inted ti gobyerno ken DOLE nga tulong tapno maikan ti oportunidad nga sumayaat iti panagbiag nangnangruna daytoy livelihood.(We have reasons to live life positively. One of this is the social support we get from government agencies like DOLE, wherein we are given opportunity to earn a decent living by providing us means of livelihood),” Cariño said.

The DILP is DOLE’s contribution to the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction and refers to any kind of legitimate economic activity that will serve as a source of viable employment option to generate income among the low-income groups or individuals.
