DOLE-CAR in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Abra and Mountain Province Chapter eatery trained a total of 339 designated safety officers from the various establishments in Abra, Mountain Province, Benguet and Baguio City to qualify them as Safety Officer 1 in compliance to RA 11058 otherwise known as “An Act Strengthening Compliance With Occupational Safety And Health Standards And Providing Penalties For Violations Thereof”

DOLE-CAR Assistant Regional Director Jesus Elpidio Atal Jr. said that the training is being conducted because of the stricter requirement of RA 11058 the Occupational Safety and Health Law requiring all establishment to have at least 1 safety officer.

RA 11058 requires employers to provide complete safe work procedures; inform workers of hazards associated with their specific jobs; provide appropriate and personal protective equipment which have passed the DOLE’s required tests; and provide access to mandatory OSH trainings as prescribed by the DOLE.

“The certificate of training comes within a great responsibility to promote and practice safe and healthy working environment hence after graduation they shall become safety and health advocates in their workplaces” ARD Atal emphasized.

The graduates of safety officers in Mountain Province and in Abra are the first batch of trainees in the said provinces while the group of establishments from Baguio City and Benguet are in its 4th batch of trainees.

With the trained Safety Officers, “Filipino workers are now better protected” ARD Atal further explained.

During the trainings, representatives PNRC provided an orientation to the trainees about their program and services.
