Pudtol, Apayao – At least twenty-four (24) identified parents of child laborers in Pudtol, Apayao received livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
DOLE Apayao Field Office (DOLE AFO) Officer-In-Charge Jane Adalan said there are 24 beneficiaries are from the different barangays in Pudtol, Apayao engage in various livelihood projects like piggery, sari-sari store, vegetable and fruit retailing, vending cooked food among others.
“The materials, tools, jigs, equipment and raw materials were provided by the Local Government Unit of Pudtol as the Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) of the while the DOLE-CAR through its Apayao Field office awarded livelihood assistance amounting to P 472,961.00.” Adalan added.
DOLE-CAR Regional Director Exequiel Ronie Guzman in an interview last Friday said the beneficiaries were identified for the assistance in support to the implementation of Child Labor Program of the Labor Department to help them generate income and employment to uplift their socio-economic lives and sustain their children’s basic needs and education.
He added that the beneficiaries will also be trained by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Apayao on on Financial Literacy, simple bookkeeping, productivity, entrepreneurship and business management to ensure project sustainability.
“If there is one priceless gift that your child may inherit from you — that is education. Education is the best vehicle to a brighter future and to pursue your child’s education because that is the best anathema to child labor, as echoed by DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III.’ Guzman also said.
Further, technical assistance will also be provided by the LGU Pudtol for the success of their livelihood projects. The livelihood check was awarded and received by last week by Pudtol, Apayao Mayor Hector Reule D. Pascua and the Municipal PESO Officer Jessie Daguio.
Pudtol is a perfect place for hiking, trekking and sightseeing. Famous tourist spots are Agora Wild Life Sanctuary, Apayao River, Maton River, Nagan River, Hutungan “Hidden Paradise”, Mount Solo and Mataguisi Church Ruins and the famous Emilia Church Ruins, It is the landmark of the beginnings of the spread of Catholicism in Apayao. /Patrick Rillorta with reports from DOLE.
